Backbury Art Classes – Autumn Term – Event Details

Term dates and timings:

The 10-week autumn term Backbury art classes will begin on 04 Sept until 13 Nov 2025, excluding a break during half term with no clubs running on 30 Oct.

The art classes take place on Thursdays 2-4pm.

Overview:

During the art classes, you will receive expert tuition on a range of different art techniques within the company of like-minded creatives. There will be weekly challenges to complete within a carefully planned progression of tasks around a set theme. Themes include landscapes, seascapes, florals, portraiture, and more.

Experience level:

The art classes are suitable for all ability levels as great care will be taken to tailor the art class to specific needs. Beginners are most welcome.

Attendees are limited to 8 to ensure that everyone can receive the help and support that they need.

About the tutor:

The classes will be led by Sharon Brookes who is the proprietor and lead tutor of Backbury House Retreats. She has a degree in Art, is a practising artist as well as a fully qualified art teacher with nearly 30 years’ experience of teaching in a range of educational settings.

During the art classes, we will explore:

• The fundamentals of drawing to develop understanding, control and skill level.
• Full tuition and practical sessions in painting technique.
• Step-by-step tasks to encourage well-crafted compositions.

What you will need to bring:

Just yourself! All materials and refreshments are included.

Access:

• We offer free designated car parking for up to 8 vehicles found next to our private road. The studio is then accessed by a short 2-minute walk.
• In addition, we also have parking for two cars found closer to the studio requiring reduced walking and no steps.
• Please note that our studio bathroom facilities are found on the first floor accessed by a set of stairs. We can provide alternative ground floor facilities, if needed.
