On a trip to the Cotswold Wildlife Park, I was lucky enough to find that the Meerkats had recently had families. I was struck by the family scenes and how protective the mob were of the beautiful pups.
In this watercolour painting, I wanted to capture the range of tones and textures that I observed in the Meerkat fur. I used my smallest brush for this work and developed lots of layers of brushwork to attempt to emanate the dense fur. I was also struck by how the gravel surrounding were of similar tones and I have used masking fluid to create the stone forms before applying the tonal layers.
