Developing Creative Flow – Event Details
Overview:
The Developing Creative Flow course is for all those who are in need of creative inspiration. It will help you to ignite your creativity and reboot the creative juices. The course will focus on achieving a creative flow in your work. This will involve working intuitively and making creative decision without the need for pre-planning.
This is a must-do course for all those who are in need of a creative reboot and/or are lacking confidence in their creativity abilities.
In addition, you will learn how working in a “flow state” improves wellbeing. Being fully absorbed in a task and without care embodies the definition of creative mindfulness.
Experience Level:
Due to the fully guided practice and practical demonstrations offered throughout the course, it is suitable for beginners. However, great care will be taken to tailor the creative mindfulness course to your specific needs, regardless of ability.
Attendees are limited to 8 people to ensure that everyone can receive the help and support that they require.
About the tutor:
The course will be led by Sharon Brookes who is the proprietor and lead tutor of Backbury House Retreats. She has a degree in Art, is a practising artist as well as a fully qualified art teacher with nearly 30 years’ experience of teaching in a range of educational settings.
The Course Timings:
The weekend course runs from Saturday-Sunday, 10:30am to 3:30pm on each day and offers a comprehensive programme of practical activity.
During the creative mindfulness course, you will:
- Firstly, you will be guided in an experimental approach to the use of media. You will learn how to use humble art materials such as wax crayons, oil pastels, collage and watercolour in expressive and inventive ways.
- Afterwards, you will be given source materials to inspire you, such as animal skin imagery, or collected natural objects. From these, you will learn how to develop free-flowing expressive imagery to kickstart your artistic flair.
- Lastly, you will develop your ability to make intuitive art that is in touch with your inner artist. There will be no rights or wrongs on this course, instead, the development of a sense of adventure and creative growth.
What’s included:
- Expert guidance by a fully qualified teacher.
- Practical demonstrations and exercises on expressive mixed media techniques.
- Course notes to take home.
- All practical materials to use on the day.
- A simple lunch plus tea and coffee throughout the day.
What you will need to bring:
- For your convenience, all the basic materials will be provided. However, if you would like to bring additional materials and equipment, please feel free to do so.

Access:
- We offer free designated car parking for up to 8 vehicles found next to our private road. The studio is then accessed by a short 2-minute walk.
- In addition, we also have parking for two cars found closer to the studio requiring reduced walking and no steps.
- Please note that our studio bathroom facilities are found on the first floor accessed by a set of stairs. We can provide alternative ground floor facilities, if needed.
