Animal Painting Course 2025 – Event Details

Overview:

On this animal painting course, you will learn how to paint realistic and charming animal portraits in a range of watercolour techniques. Furthermore, you may even wish to paint your own pet portraits.

Experience level:

Due to the guided practice and practical demonstrations offered throughout the course, it is suitable for all ability levels. Beginners are most welcome.

Attendees are limited to 8 people to ensure that everyone can receive the help and support that they require.

About the tutor:

The course will be led by Sharon Brookes who is the proprietor and lead tutor of Backbury House Retreats. She is a practising artist and fully qualified art teacher with nearly 30 years’ experience of teaching in a range of educational settings.

The Course Timings:

The weekend course runs from Saturday-Sunday, 10:30am to 3:30pm on each day and offers a comprehensive programme.

During the animal painting course, we will explore:

• Firstly, you will learn how to draw accurate animal imagery using simple methods.
• You will then receive step-by-step practical demonstrations on lots of different watercolour technique with full guidance at every stage. This will include how to fully experiment with watercolour in order to achieve creative and realistic effects.
• Afterwards, you will learn how to achieve finer details and increasing control of the medium. By the end of the animal painting course, you will aim to achieve a more accomplished watercolour painting of an animal which you can then proudly take home.

Access:

• We offer free designated car parking for up to 8 vehicles found next to our private road. The studio is then accessed by a short 2-minute walk.
• In addition, we also have parking for two cars found closer to the studio requiring reduced walking and no steps.
• Please note that our studio bathroom facilities are found on the first floor accessed by a set of stairs. We can provide alternative ground floor facilities, if needed.
