Slow Stitching Course – Event Details

Overview:

The art of slow stitching involves working expressively and without the need for complicated patterns to follow. You will learn how slow stitching can not only be expressive and relaxing, but also a wonderful way to develop your creative mindfulness practice.

On the slow stitching course, you will develop your ability to use a range of embroidery stitches to create free-flowing and creative patterns. What’s more, you will learn how contemporary embroidery is free from restraints and encourages a more expressive approach to hand embroidery.

This course will be suitable for all those who wish to develop creative craft skills as well as slow down and spend quality time in relaxing pursuits.

Due to the fully guided practice and practical demonstrations offered throughout the course, it is suitable for beginners. However, great care will be taken to tailor the creative mindfulness course to your specific needs, regardless of ability. Please note that attendees are limited to 8 people to ensure that everyone can receive the help and support that they require.

The creative mindfulness course will be led by Sharon Brookes who is a practising artist and fully qualified art teacher with nearly 30 years’ experience in teaching.

The Course Timings:

• The weekend course runs from Saturday-Sunday, 10:30am to 3:30pm on each day and offers a comprehensive programme of practical activity.

During the mindful drawing course, you will:

• Firstly, you begin by exploring a range of embroidery stitches within practical workshops offering step-by-step tuition and individual support.
• Following, you will be introduced to the work of a range of contemporary embroidery artists’ work in order to develop your knowledge and provide creative inspiration.
• Lastly, you will have the opportunity to develop a range of stitched samplers exploring embroidery stitches and applique in creative ways.

• Practical demonstrations and exercises on the use of embroidery stitches and applique .
• Course notes to take home.
• All practical materials to use on the day.
• A simple lunch plus tea and coffee throughout the day.
