Overview:
During the landscape painting course, you will be expertly guided through all aspects of watercolour painting, as well as how to improve your drawing technique. You will have the opportunity to use the surrounding idyllic scenery as inspiration for your work and you will be able to work “en plain air” outside amongst the surroundings.
Due to the guided practice and practical demonstrations offered throughout the retreat, it is suitable for all ability levels. Please note that attendees are limited to 8 people to ensure that everyone can receive the help and support that they require.
The course will be led by Sharon Brookes who is a practising artist and fully qualified art teacher with nearly 30 years’ experience of teaching art.
The Course Timings:
- The weekend course runs from Saturday-Sunday, 10:30am to 3:30pm on each day and offers a comprehensive programme.
During the landscape painting course, we will:
- Firstly, learn how to draw simple landscapes with focus on how to creatively draw flora and fauna.
- Following on, you will receive step-by-step practical demonstrations on lots of different watercolour technique with full guidance at every stage. For example, you will be guided in how to fully experiment with watercolour in order to achieve creative and realistic effects.
- Next, you will learn the fundamentals of perspective and how to achieve depth in your work.
- Lastly, you will learn how to achieve finer details and increasing control in your work. By the end of the landscape course, you will aim to achieve more accomplished watercolour paintings of landscapes which you can then proudly take home.
What’s included:
- Expert guidance by a fully qualified art teacher.
- Practical demonstrations and exercises on drawing and watercolour painting.
- Course notes to take home.
- All watercolour materials to use on the day.
- A simple lunch plus tea and coffee on each day.
What you will need to bring:
- If you own an easel, you may wish to bring it with you.
- Please wear suitable footwear and clothing suitable for outside working.

We can arrange large-print scripts, if required. Please let us know on booking if you would like to access them. Please note that our bathroom facilities are located on the first floor. Owing to the nature of the course, you will be accessing outside areas that have some uneven ground. However, we can arrange for more accessible areas to be used, if required.
